On Friday, August 16, 2019, incoming Highland Park High School Freshmen are invited to attend HPHS’s annual FISH CAMP with the purpose of giving them the opportunity to feel a greater sense of belonging as they transition from middle school to high school.
Freshmen who have surnames ending in A through L will report to the HPHS NORTH GYM entrance at 8:15 a.m. where they will receive their group assignment, and then be directed to the Competition GYM. They will be finished with FISH CAMP at approximately 10:30 a.m.
Freshmen who have surnames ending in M through Z will report to the HPHS NORTH GYM entrance at 10:15 a.m., where they will receive their group assignment, and then be directed to the Competition GYM. They will be finished with FISH CAMP at approximately 12:00 noon.
Freshmen will be assigned in small groups to a FISH CAMP Counselor who will also serve as his/her mentor on this day and during the first semester of the school year. FISH CAMP Counselors are older students who were selected because they have shown kindness, leadership skills, and responsibility.
Along with being assigned their Mentor, the freshmen will be given valuable school information while obtaining their Student IDs, schedules, textbooks, and a tour of the school (if construction allows).
Please note: Yearbook pictures will also be taken during this time. HP tradition is that boys wear a suit/sport coat, button down collared shirt, and a tie (typically with khaki shorts and tennis shoes). Girls will wear appropriate school attire (no spaghetti straps, halter tops, or strapless tops).
