Math and Science Teams win 3 UIL State Championships

For the second consecutive year, three HPHS teams have won 5A Championships at the UIL State Academic Meet. The teams competed May 4-5 at UT-Austin, after winning regional championships in April.
Members of the Number Sense State Championship team included:

Richard Luo - First place overall
Amy Li - Third place overall
Parth Nandekar
Stacy Wang
The Mathematics State Championship team included members:

Amy Li - First place overall
Richard Luo - Third place overall
Stacy Wang
Michael Xie
The Science team won its 10th state championship under the coaching of HPHS chemistry teacher Wenzen Chuang, and included:

Richard Luo - Second place overall, top score in Chemistry
Michael Xie - Fourth place overall
Amy Li
Kenan Gursel

Chuang currently holds the La Fiesta de las Seis Banderas Distinguished Chair in Science at HPHS, established through the Highland Park Education Foundation in 2017.
"Our Math, Science, and Number Sense State Champions have succeeded at the highest level without expectation of fanfare or attention," HPHS Principal Walter Kelly said. "We are so proud that of these students and their coaches, and how they have established academic excellence as a part of their self-motivation and character. Congratulations!"
