Teacher Profile
Barry Preston began teaching English, Broadcast Journalism, and Video/Film studies at Highland Park High School in 1996. He embraces a student-centered approach, believing that the classroom should be a space through which an individual’s creative potential is encouraged to flourish. Dr. Preston’s educational background includes English, Film Studies, Creative Writing, and Religion Studies, with a B.A. from Texas Christian University, Masters degrees from Vanderbilt and the University of North Texas, and a doctorate from Southern Methodist University. He has taught at Memphis University School and University of North Texas, as well as HPHS. He enjoys spending time with his wife, Natalie, and son, Evan, playing games, watching movies, and debating the merits of various multiverses. When he is not practicing the virtue of patience with his beagle, Dodger, he likes listening to 70’s progressive rock, writing creatively, and reading satire.
