Barry A. Preston
Barry Preston first taught at Highland Park High School from 1996 to 2010. After an eight year break from classroom teaching, Mr. Preston returned to HPHS in 2018 to teach courses in Communications Technology, including Video and Film studies and Broadcast Journalism. He has always embraced a student-centered approach to education, believing that the classroom should be a space through which an individual’s creative potential is encouraged to flourish. Mr. Preston’s educational background includes Television/Film, English, and Religion Studies, with a B.A. from Texas Christian University, Masters degrees from Vanderbilt and the University of North Texas, and a doctorate from Southern Methodist University. He has taught at Memphis University School and UNT, as well as HPHS. Research interests have centered on mythic themes in narrative film.
