Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)

Technology at Highland Park High School

Highland Park High School has a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program.  This means families may choose a Chromebook, laptop, tablet, or iPad that meet minimum specifications to use on campus for learning. There is a list of recommended devices that meet minimum specifications for parents to look through.

We have this program for several reasons:

  • Desire for students to be able to produce original work and customize their learning experience
  • Ability of eBooks for some classes and prevalence of web-based tools and non-device specific programs
  • Ability to fully utilize Google classroom and researching online
  • Freedom for students to choose a device that fits their comfort level and interests
  • Budgetary flexibility for families

All students are required to have a portable computer device. We recommend reviewing the lists of minimum requirements and recommended devices before purchasing.

Device Checkout on Campus

Devices will be available to check out in the Library on a day-to-day basis starting Monday, 8/23/21 if a student needs a device for the day. Teachers may have devices available to use in their classrooms if needed for their course and for checkout in their classrooms as well. If you have extenuating circumstance please contact your student's principal.

Recommended Devices

One of our goals as a Bring Your Own Device campus is to give more choice and flexibility to families. With that in mind, we have researched several devices and provided the information and recommendations below to help families make this decision. Some important items to consider are the operating system, keyboard type, storage space, mobility and price for a device with all the desired features.
