Anne F. Balden

Profile   I was born and raised in Pueblo, Colorado and have been teaching since 1975.  In that time, I have taught grades 6-12, standard, PreAP/Honors, TAG, and AP, in rural, suburban, public and private schools in three different states—Kansas, Colorado, and Texas.  I have had the pleasure of teaching English/Language Arts, German, and Psychology, and since 2018 my courses have included AP Capstone (Seminar and Research).  I have been at Highland Park High School since 2003 teaching all levels, but primarily AP English Literature and during the past five years, AP Capstone. My BA is in English with minors in Psychology and German, and I have earned a Masters in Liberal Arts from Southern Methodist University and a Masters in Educational Administration with Mid-Management from University of North Texas. I have also served as an Assistant Principal for 6 ½ years in two private schools in Dallas.  My goal for my students is to support and guide them with the skills to be literate, competent citizens of the world, with understanding of the cultural and historical influences on the universality of literature and to become articulate speakers and writers of the English language.  I have been married as long as I have been teaching, have five children, seven grandchildren, and two dogs.
