Shayla Turnbow Dunlap, B.S.N., R.N.
Shayla Turnbow Dunlap has been with Highland Park Independent School District since 2016. Shayla has previous nursing experience in General Medicine, as well as Ortho-Trauma from Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Shayla earned a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing from Baylor University. Shayla graduated from Baylor University with honors, Sigma Theta Tau. Shayla also earned a Bachelor's of Science in Biology with a minor in Psychology from Dallas Baptist University. Shayla is currently pursuing her Masters of Science in Family Nurse Practitioner specialty track, recently nominated to the graduate school Honors Society. Shayla has previous pediatric experience from volunteering at Texas Health Presbyterian's Pediatric Clinic in Dallas, Texas. Shayla is BLS certified, as well as certified in Hearing, Vision and Acanthosis Nigricans screening. Shayla has completed emergency training for Stop the Bleed by UTSW Emergency Medicine. Shayla is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society, Golden Key International Honour Society, Honors Society Strength and Honor and National Association of School Nurses. Shayla became a nurse because she wanted to make a difference in people's lives on a daily basis, while utilizing her science background. Shayla enjoys helping students meet their basic needs, as well as helping students with chronic conditions such as seizure management, diabetes, asthma and life threatening allergies. In Shayla’s spare time, she loves spending time with her Husband, Josh, and her two dogs, Buddha and Scotch. Shayla is currently the School Nurse at Highland Park High School, as well as over immunization compliance for Highland Park Independent School District.
