About Me
Hi there!
My name is Katie Van Der Voort, I am the Positive Behavior Support-focused Study Skills teacher on the HPHS campus. I serve grades 9-12, as do my wonderful Instructional Assistants Blair Kaiser and Broderick Sublet. This is my 9th year teaching, and 3rd year at HPHS; before switching campuses, I was the PBS teacher at University Park Elementary for two years. I also have experience as the Behavior Support teacher at Westlake High School in Austin, TX, and taught 9th and 10th grade World History / Human Geography, and 9-12 Academic Life Skills on the North side of Chicago prior to moving down to Texas in 2017.
I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Social Studies Education from Indiana University- Bloomington (Go Hoosiers!), a Master of Education Degree in Diverse Learning/ English-as-a-Second Language from Trinity International University-Deerfield, and am wrapping up my second Master of Education Degree in Educational Leadership from Texas Woman's University.
I live in Dallas with my husband, Tyler, our *almost* 2-year-old, and two rescue dogs. I love serving the kids that come through my classroom each day! This school year I am excited to be working alongside Tyson Peterson to head Community Service for the high school campus. I also love meeting new families and students each summer through the ESY program.
I really enjoy having the privilege of building positive relationships with families in Highland Park ISD :)
Looking forward to a wonderful school year and working alongside you all!
