Scott Turner
Teacher Profile
Greetings! My name is Scott Turner, and I'm thrilled to begin my eleventh year teaching in Texas. I have taught AP Literature, English IV, English I Honors, ESL classes, and served as an ESL Campus Coordinator. I received the Teacher of the Month Award in 2022 at RISD. In addition to teaching, I have coached soccer most of my life including eight years at the collegiate level.
I played club soccer and traveled to Mexico City when I was eleven. I played in five Dallas Cups, reached a Dallas Cup Final, won Classic League twice, played in the opening match of the Dallas Cup Super Group, won two club state championships, and won one regional championship making us one of the top four club teams in the nation. I played NCAA Division I soccer at Missouri State University. After college, I returned to Dallas to teach and coach.
I've coached at SMU, University of Texas - Dallas, and Northwood University. As an assistant at SMU, we won the WAC championship and were ranked briefly at #1 in the nation. At UTD, I was the assistant coach for three years. In my first year, we finished second in the conference tournament final in overtime. We won our division side of the conference the next two years. As a head coach in college, I coached both the men and women's teams concurrently. In the four years coaching both programs, the teams combined to win four season and three conference tournament championships. The men's team reached the regional final and were penalty kicks away from advancing to nationals. The women's team started one season 11-0-0, climbed to #6 rank in the nation, and lost in penalty kicks at the national tournament finishing the season with a W-L-T record of 18-2-3. I was the recipient of the Northwood University campus Outstanding Influencer Award (selected by seniors) and region coach of the year. After coaching college, I started teaching and coaching high school soccer.
As an assistant coach at John Paul II, we reached the state championship game. At Lake Highlands as an assistant, the team lost in penalty kicks in the 6A regional final. As a head high school coach, I've coached teams to three district championships and was named District Coach of the Year three times. This past season at Highland Park, we won our first 6A district championship. We started the season undefeated at 11-0-3. After our first loss, we went 9-0-0. We were ranked as high as #3 in the state, reached the Area Round, and finished the season 20-2-3. Teaching and coaching provides the opportunity to have a positive influence on students.
Instilling confidence in students and athletes is an aspect of my teaching way. I am a former member of Juko-Kai International, a closed division of Juko-Ryu Toide. Karate study has been a positive influence in how I teach and coach. My wife and I live in Dallas.
