April Burns
Teacher Profile
Hello! My name is April Burns and I am so honored to be a part of the HPHS faculty. I have a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, an Endorsement in Education, and a Minor in Exercise Science from Sterling College in Sterling, Kansas, all so I could teach and coach. In May of 2022, I graduated with my Master of Arts in Leadership from Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, California. I started my teaching career in Kansas in 2012 and I have taught everything from sixth-grade math to high school geometry and have coached volleyball, basketball, track, and softball. In 2016, I moved back to Texas and joined the Highland Park faculty in 2017. I currently teach Geometry and coach volleyball and softball. I am passionate about teaching students how to be responsible citizens who understand what it means to be human. I love teaching students how to be leaders and I love developing leadership qualities in others. Although I teach a subject that can be a challenge for most students, I try to make math fun and enjoyable for them while inspiring confidence in my students and players. The hope is that students will enjoy coming to my class every day even if they don’t like the subject that I teach.
