Profile

Teaching matters. Words and ideas matter. But most importantly, kids matter.  It is an honor and a privilege to share a classroom with our leaders of tomorrow.  I began my teaching career in 2001 as a graduate teaching assistant at Texas Woman’s University, and I joined the faculty of Highland Park High School in 2016.  AP Literature and Composition is my area of expertise, but my teaching experience is very diverse and includes both high school and college classes.  I am a life-long learner and always looking for ways to perfect my craft and collaborate with other teachers. Since 2013 I have served as a reader for College Board and I have recent experience with College and Career Readiness Standards project work.  Some of my most treasured summer learning experiences include studying William Faulkner in Oxford, Mississippi and English literature in Oxford, England.  In more recent years I have devoted weeks of summer to studying Dante at the University of Virginia as an NEH summer scholar and studying the intersections of art, history, and literature at the Smithsonian American Art Museum. While I have received some recognition for innovation in and dedication to teaching, including Humanities Texas 2015 Outstanding Teaching of the Humanities Award, kind words from students and parents are my most treasured accolade.
